My broody hen was on two or three eggs for several days. Today I found she had left the nest and around 12 eggs were in the empty nest. Apparently, other hens used that nest to lay their eggs also. My dilemma is, how do I tell which eggs to throw out? I was told not to eat eggs when they have been under a nesting hen after a few days. None of them were warm. She did this before also. I hate to throw out 12 eggs.

what will I be looking for when I do? Sorry, I'm new at this candle thing.

you will look for veining and movement if they are older you may be able to see body parts

great thanks! I finally held the flashlight correctly, the large part on the right, shone it under the egg and just saw that tiny dark blob. No lines. Good to know especially since one hen has been nesting for 14 days. Thanks!
