Bad habits during feeding - any suggestions?

How many birds do you have?
How many days in a row did you try the free feeding?
What kind of feed are you using?
...and what kind of feeders, are they dumping it all on the ground//floor?
Sorry for all the Q's...it's just odd that they would over-indulge and be so feed aggressive.
62 birds outside currently. :)

We fed 24/7 for a couple years, and flew through feed to the point where it became terribly expensive. Our birds are, in general, larger/heavier than those of the same breed, from the same hatch date, and source (which were given to family and friends who went in with us on an order). Not sure why. Now I feed them 3-5 times a day. We also grew corn this year, which has been used to supplement their diet. Agricultural fields full of leftover soy/corn, an orchard, kitchen scraps, and daily free ranging, too. Still, they're ravenous monsters.

They consume non - GMO broiler crumbles, 22% protein, though types have fluctuated over the years.

We formerly used typical, hanging, metal feeders, until the chooks tore them apart. It's honestly hard to keep those things together at this point. Until arrangements are adjusted, only the base is functioning. For now, I pour feed into those, and the ground outside their coop. Little is wasted around here. :)

No problem, I'm fine answering questions!
