I just sprinkle or puff (using a special Sevin dust "puffer" that I forget where I got it) the dust into the feathers. Other people put the dust in a sock and then hit the birds with the sock to let the dust seep out onto them, though I'm not sure how well that works. Another method I've heard of its to put some poultry dust or Sevin in a pillowcase, put the bird in the pillow case with its head sticking out, and then shake the pillowcase around to get the dust into the bird's feathers.

Don't forget to redust 7-10 days after the first dusting to kill any mites/lice that hatch from eggs (which are unaffected by the treatment). Also, I would recommend cleaning out the coop, spraying the walls and floor down with vinegar or liquid Sevin, and then putting in all fresh bedding. Otherwise, mites/lice may remain hiding in crevices, and then re-infest your birds when they roost at night.

You can just sprinkle it on, or you can use a tool that puffs the Sevin dust onto the bird. As Bantamlover21 said, you can also try using an old sock, or a pillowcase. I use a Sevin dust "puffer" when I dust my birds, and it works pretty well. If you're experiencing lice, dust again in 10 days. If you think you have mites, dust again in seven days (or do both). This will get rid of any eggs that hatch.

I've used a leg cut off a pair of pantyhose, filled it with the sevin dust, and puffed away... worked great and I used a pair of pantyhose that were over 10 years old... Recycle and repurpose..

I would think that humans could get roundworms from chickens just like any animal, but I could be wrong. Some good wormers to use on your chickens are Valbazen, SafeGuard, or the Worminator (contains Flubenvet and is what I use). Ivermectin isn't a good choice as many worms are resistant to it, but, even though I usually don't recommend it, I suppose you could use Wazine as well. Just keep in mind that Wazine only works on roundworms; the other wormers I mentioned are broad-spectrum. You can usually find wormers at a livestock supply store, and the Worminator can be ordered online from here: http://www.twincitypoultrysupplies.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=584

I just looked up your question, and found that humans cannot get chicken roundworms from chickens. Apparently, the large roundworm that chickens get can only affect them (and other poultry, I believe). Still, to be on the safe side, be careful when eating around your birds, and wash you hands often.

In case you don't have a dewormer yet, I recommend getting either Safeguard (for goats--I believe it comes in both a liquid and a paste) or Valbazen. Both wormers are broad spectrum and relatively safe to use. Here is some information on different dewormers:

Hope I've helped!
