Bad news, good news

Now that I'm dealing with serious nastiness, that's good to read. I usually capture the neck of the alpha, if I have to. Before it gets to that point, I just face them, speak calmly, and show no fear. Sometimes I walk very slowly toward them and spread my arms wide. I think they mostly still see me as the boss. I had to scoop one up and hold him once.

I have to admit -- a bunch of ganders threatening to attack all at once IS intimidating to me ... But I don't let them know that.

I also find if I lead them out of their yard into the front and stay with them so they can splash around and forage a bit, they are ever so much nicer to me when I take them back, and don't hiss anymore -- until the next day.
