Hi everyone,

This morning, I saw that one of our polish chicks had passed away. It was Abba, the female. We were very distraught to find out that this had happened. I had gone to sleep at 2 am last night and had checked on them before bed and everything seemed fine, they were all sleeping under Coco. But this morning, I found Abba facing down on the hay as if she was sleeping, but she was gone. I am obviously sad but also disappointed because I felt like I did everything I could to take care of the chicks and to help Coco take care of them but it didn't work. I feel a bit defeated, as this is my first time having baby chicks and raising them. I am left with Dolly, who might be a roo, as I had shared in my introduction post. I examined Abba to see if maybe Coco had killed her but there was no blood, her beak wasn't open, her eyes were closed, essentially she really did look like she was sleeping peacefully, but she was cold. If anyone has advice on what I should do or how to proceed because I don't want to give up on having hens in the future but right now, my motivation has received a punch in the gut. Also, it could have been that I was sold a sick chick, as I had mentioned in my first post, I have had issues with the breeder who sold them to me throughout this whole process. If anyone has any ideas of what could have gone wrong, please share. Thank you!

I’m sorry you lost a chick. So sad! I am new to baby chick raising so do not have any advice just sympathy.
Thanks for messaging even if you don't have advice. Kind words help, too. I hope your baby chicks stay happy and healthy

I think that must've been what happened, I don't understand why she wasn't under her..

Sorry about your chick. I have lost Polish chicks to coccidiosis in the past. Is their any blood in the poop?

Sorry about your chick.
It may have been weak to begin with.
I would watch your remaining chick closely.
are you feeding medicated chick feed?
Also did you get some chick electrolite water additive for them. I relly sware by that stuff with each batch of chicks i get.
I hope your remaining chick is a female and does well.

Thanks for the advice, definitely going to look into the chick electrolyte water additive. Hopefully, amazon delivery isn't backed up. I didn't buy medicated chick feed, I bought Manna Pro Chick Starter and Grower and that's what I've been feeding Dolly. He's doing well though, last night I stayed up til 5 am making sure everything was ok because I didn't want the same thing to happen to Dolly and I wanted to watch closely. Today I let them out of their cage for a little to walk around in an enclosed area and Dolly was following momma around and seemed like a happy lil baby. I'm hoping that it continues to be this way because I really would hate to have this last baby die. I know that the next time my hen goes broody, I'm definitely going to be buying female chicks from someone else because I'm almost certain Dolly is a boy :/
