bad thermostat

I have a hovobator 1602. The thermostat is bad. Can i just replace the wafer or do i have to replace the whole thing?

The snap-switch may probably be bad you can get one for about $8 or $9 at GQF.com or another supplier and it is easy to change out. The whole thermostat is about $23 plus shipping. The wafer is about $8 as well and even easier to replace. You can check the wafer to see if it is bad by placing it in a warm spot to see if it swells up (gets thicker) if it does it is still good then you know it is the snap-switch.

Is the wafer damaged or is it the switch that's broken? Check the wafer closely it may have a crack in it. Likely it's the switch.

I can't find where you can get the switch only. You could call GFQ directly and ask.

it will drop almost 5 degrees before it comes back on and if I ope the incubator and it drops ten degrees or so the heat just shuts off and doesn't come back on for a while....

Is there a way to test if that switch is bad?

if you had a electrical meter attached to the leads off the switch yo could test resistance through it while cycling it. But by reading what you have wrote so far i would replace the wafer. from what is wrote in post 5 it sounds as if it has a crack somewhere in it. it

I just ordered a new switch. I can't see any damage to the wafer but I will likely order a new one anyways

Thank you for the advice. I really want to hatch some eggs. If this fixes the problem, i plan to get some bobwhite eggs. I have 3 hens so far and really want some more. I am going to hatch some coturnix eggs too from my birds.
