hey guys i was just wondering about the chicken dander and all the feathers they lose. I have a open top brooder in my bedroom with 8 silkies a runner and a gosling in it. is it bad to be inhaling all the dander and feathers and everything else there is lol. let me know

I had mine in my addition living room which is very much open to the kitchen and original living room. Lots of dust but the kids didn't have any coughing or sneezing issues. I did find myself dusting and vacuuming a lot more while they were inside but no issues. I never realized how dirty they could get things!

Never had a problem, but I do have a spoiled runt (stunted growth) 97 day old rooster living in his own brooder box in my bedroom. Yeah, when I let him walk around everyday, he leaves nasty little surprises here and there and the little shaft shavings from his feathers sometimes get all over the place, but as long as I have a broom, a mop, paper towels, floor cleaner, etc. then it's all good. But despite my efforts to keep it generally clean, my brother still says it smells like a barn in here...which I say, "what's wrong with that??"

It's not the nasty poop barn smell, but it's the barn smell that smells good. It smells like wood shavings and his chick starter crumbles!

I brood my chicks in the kitchen and everything in their vicinity gets coated with chickendust. I just tolerate it and when they go out to the coop I do a really deep spring cleaning of the kitchen. I thought that by using wood pellets for bedding, this year, would help with preventing dust but it's still dusty and they are only 2 weeks old!
