We have two chickens in a coop of their own, a Polish hen who lays small white eggs and a severe scissor beak Easter Egger who lays pretty blue eggs. My daughter collected the eggs this morning and got the typical small white egg from the coop, but went back out tonight to see if our Easter Egger had laid an egg because she hasn’t laid for a couple of days and she came back in with an 80 gram white egg; do you think our Polish laid two eggs in one day for our Easter Eggers is now laying white eggs instead of blue?

Neither of your two hens are breeds that lay tinted eggs, meaning a layer of color is laid down over a white egg. Your Ameraucana lays blue eggs that are not tinted that color. They begin as blue eggs in the shell gland and that's the color when they get laid.

Therefore, since each hen lays distinctive eggs, the Polish must have laid two eggs in a 25 hour cycle. Yes, this is uncommon, but it does happen. I've seen it numerous times in my flock.

It likely won't happen again. However, if it does, come back to this thread and let us know. It can be problematic in that there may not be enough calcium in the hen's system to make good shells for two eggs in the same cycle. That can set her up for a future bout of egg binding.

By the way, let us know if either of those two white eggs has a thin shell. It can give us a clue to future issues.
