Bald and red on her underside

Chickens appreciate a kind gentle hand :) they begin to recognize you're not intent on eating them.

I mean, maybe they interpret it differently? But it works, right? You love them, they got sick...no big deal, it happens. Praise your higher power that it wasn't something really terrible. There are much nastier things out there, this test for you and your chickens will have a great reward! It seems like a set back, but there is a purpose, just follow and do yo what you have to do, and see where your relationship develops with them. Happy hens makes for more eggs, right. How can a chicken feel good and safe and everything if they are terrified of you?!

If you show them affection and compassion, that language crosses barriers, we just have to listen. They love their momma hen, and the momma hen is the problem solvet, teaches everyone what they need to do to sur I live and to be in tip top shape. This is teaching your girls that you ha en their back. I think it's a great trust building exercise.
Anyway, speaking of huge disappointments in life, here is a dog that had failed out of childrens' search and rescue training school. Three weeks after it was adopted, it saved a baby that had been drowning? Not sure what the caption is about. It does not mention that in thw news clip. Enjoy!

Thanks for your kind words. :) I just worry so much about them, especially because I'm new at this and don't know everything yet. I mean, obviously I did a lot of research before I got them, but its so much different once you actually have them! I have so much experience with dogs and cats from my years of working with them that it's disorienting to own an animal and not know as much about them.

The girls have started running to see me when I come to the gate. :) It's actually difficult to get in the run now without stepping on a chicken! Someone laid an egg yesterday too. Not sure who, I wasn't home when it was laid.

Update on the girls! I checked everyone over yesterday. No signs of lice on Berta or Sylvia, but Tillie and Gladys each had a bug or two I saw. I sprayed everyone with the PP again, and Friday it will have been a week since I deep cleaned the coop, so I'll be pulling all the shavings out, cleaning, and re-treating. Berta's belly is all healed up too! Her skin is nice and white again, not red and inflamed. I'm bummed there's still some lice, but happy 2 girls seem to be clean of it and everyone is definitely itching less. I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing and check them again in a few days.

On a slightly unrelated note, every time I check Gladys over she has a bit of poop or mud stuck between her toes. I pull it out every time. It doesn't seem to bother her, but is this normal? Is she just a dirty girl, haha?
