Bald and red on her underside

How are the girls doing?

They are very mad at me right now, haha. I posted on one of my local chicken groups and found someone who gave me a 5 gallon bucket full of wood ash from her fireplace. :) I just got done rubbing wood ash into everyone's feathers! I had to hold them upside down by their feet in order to really get it under the feathers, which I think I was more upset by than they were. Even though I know its ok to do. So now everyone is puffed up, dusty, and PO'd, haha. I did not spray them with the Poultry Protector today since it is chilly. I figured it wouldn't be good to get them wet, especially under the wings.

I put the leftover ash into a tub and left that in their run so they can dust bathe in the ash if they want to. Now they have holes filled with DE and the wood ash for dust bathing options. So hoping that all this is putting them on the road to being bug free!

They're all so annoyed.

They are beautiful birds, for sure!
what breeds are they? I think I know, but I'm no good at identification...yep, that's a chicken...good! Hahahaha.

Tillie I was told was an Ameraucana but apparently is an Easter Egger. Gladys is a Buff Orpington, Berta a Black Sex Link, and Sylvia a Golden Laced Wyandotte. :)

Those are my favorites! I guess they are commonly people's favorites lol.

I just love these girls. They're such nice birds and they have been just angels about being handled so much. I want this all to be over soon so I'm not just the new scary lady who manhandles them all the time. :(

I think it's a great bonding experience. I feel that many animals can tell you are trying to help them. I think it will help you gain their trust and become their provider and protector. Maybe it's a lot of work, but maybe it's a blessing in disguise

Oh I definitely don't mind extra work! Just a part of owning animals. :) I just feel sorta bad that here they are, not really used to being handled, and not only do they move to a new house but they pretty much immediately start getting handled more than they ever have in their lives! I feel very lucky they're so good.
