Bald Eagle Predation

I believe even protected creatures can be defended against if they attack a human. You would have to have proof though.
Even when wolves(those that are under protection) are attacking livestock you are allowed to kill them here in MInnesota, if I am not mistaken. Again, if this were to happen, the burden of proof falls on the person claiming it was in defense.

I hate to say it, but there are rats on the property already....would I throw the rats in the air under the eagle? (just kidding, lol)

Trap them and stake them out alive the birds will find them

Eek! I don't know if I could do that (too much of a coward)

HAH! That was the first article I read when I got online to research! Soon learned that's not the case. I wish we could put a correction on that site.

Are you near the Loxahatchee area? (Used to live in FL) That pic of the eagles on the fence is AMAZING. I still can't get over how many birds there seem to be...lots more than I imagined.

Killing the eagle is the last thing I'd ever do. My birds are free range, so until I get some additional covered runs built, the birds need hiding spots. Do you think that the CDs would work on eagles? The radio is an interesting idea as well. I might be able to run string across a couple small areas, but I can't do that on 1-1/2 acres- especially as there are llamas and mini horses in there too. Thanks for the suggestions!

Edited to add: maybe I will string some wire across the field with CDs attached to it way above the llamas heads. Can't hurt to try...

Sorry i did not know you replied. Yes i do believe the cds would help. These extra diversions will hopefully give the chickens a few more moments to hide or for someone to interrupt the attack.

Thanks. Guess I'll be raiding the shelves for all those old unlistened to CDs. I'm still getting used to this site. Is there a way to check for replies to your posts or do you just go back and re-read the threads?

Yeah, it's unfortunate that most of the nature education sources don't go into more detail. Yes eagles do like fish quite a bit, but they're not going to turn their noses up at roadkill either if they're hungry.

Nature doesn't favor the picky eaters

about the scare crow. You could try to make one on a hanger and then hang it so it moves in the wind. My Dad does this to keep the deer out of his woods. Maybe tie some CD's to it also.

Good Question this is what I do:

If you go to profile. Click posts. You'll see a list of all the posts on other threads you've posted on. If there is a little
jumpy.gif
beside it then there has been new replies to that thread.

Anyone who burns a lot of CDRs or DVDRs will have a bunch of junked discs (aka "coasters") from failed burns. I have a box of them somewhere looking for a new purpose in life. There are some places that recycle them.
