Bald Eagle Predation

If you don't want to be attacked by eagles, don't climb up into their nest. Other than that, they are going to leave you alone.

Covered runs are the only really sure way to protect your birds. Harassing the eagles is illegal. It's Federal law and fines are extremely steep, as in 10's of thousands of dollars steep. Leave the eagles alone. Better yet, enjoy the sight of them and get yourself a good camera.

Yep, we get it. I think my eagle is awesome...just not with my chicken in its mouth. And a lot of people have been attacked while minding their own business, according to Internet reports. Yes, they may have been near a nest but they weren't climbing into it! My concern about an eagle attacking is because I was 10 feet away from one killing my duck and I wasn't sure about eagle behaviour. Have you had to deal with eagles in Central Oregon? Maybe you can help?

Oooh, the hanger idea is a good one...and attaching CDs would be interesting too. I also have a flock of free-loading wild pigeons who show up almost daily. Maybe the scarecrow will scare THEM off, too!

Seriously though, the pigeons aren't showing up so often and when they do, the flock is severely reduced in size. I think the eagles may be taking a toll on the pigeons too. (And that's OK with me.)

Talk about a sticky situation. Well, I probably won't try to intervene if the eagle hooks another bird in my presence- but I don't think I could stand it.

HAH! That was the first article I read when I got online to research! Soon learned that's not the case. I wish we could put a correction on that site.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that most of the nature education sources don't go into more detail. Yes eagles do like fish quite a bit, but they're not going to turn their noses up at roadkill either if they're hungry.

Nature doesn't favor the picky eaters

I was reminded by an Oregon rancher that eagles take an awful lot of lambs and calves. Once I was reminded of that (hey, school was a LONG time ago, ok?) I remembered some of the other long forgotten stats. We are relatively close to a couple of rivers, but I guess the birds weren't in the mood to fly over there.

Thanks for the heads up! I frequent a number of forums and each one is different...

Anyone who burns a lot of CDRs or DVDRs will have a bunch of junked discs (aka "coasters") from failed burns. I have a box of them somewhere looking for a new purpose in life. There are some places that recycle them.

I bet I'd be inundated if I put an ad on Craigslist.
