I have a bantam rooster with two girls. I know this ratio isn't good but I also have three more pullets which I will be introducing to him (they are currently kept separate) in around 6 weeks.
Right now, one of the hens with him seems to be snubbing his advances after coming out of a brood. This leaves him only mating one.

In the past couple of weeks I have noticed this one hen is getting a bald spot on the top of her head where the rooster is biting her during mating. I've heard of chicken saddles but nothing to protect head feathers. Is there anything I can do as the bald spot is getting bigger by the day. My other hen never had this problem with the same rooster before she went broody.

Get more Hens..The feathers will grow back once she molts.
Thanks. As I said I have three pullets lined up and will probably be getting one or two more by mid summer. How many hens is ideal to keep with one roo in a bantam flock? I keep them as pets and am not bothered about if all eggs are fertilised, only that there are enough girls to avoid any being overmated.

Three more should be great..

There's really no 'ideal'......even with a dozen more birds he may still pay an undue amount of attention to one girl. Some birds have brittle feathers and more likely to lose them to a cockbirds technique.
