balding hen?!

shhhheeeewww One of my hens is moulting bad and I was worrierd since all my books say they moult in the summer. SHould winter moulting hens be penned up to keep them from getting chilled?

Last year my Barred Rock was molting in the coldest time of year, and I was very worried about her at night, so I peeked in to check on her, and I couldn't see her, because my Rhode Island Red was sleeping on top of her to keep her warm! Hopefully your other hens will keep the molting one from the cold. (Of course, I'm in a slightly warmer climate in Georgia--hopefully others with more experience will chime in.)

My most perfect looking hen, Sweetness, had the most cruel molt. She was a trainwreck, while the other girls sailed through it gracefully. Poor girl. Nature's way of evening out the blessings I guess.
