Baltimore City Chicken newbie

Hello Neighbor! Welcome to BYC! Glad to have you join us!

Breaking a dog of its prey drive can be difficult, but not impossible. Our new puppy lunged at them non stop when we first brought her home. I worked with her on leash for a couple weeks and got her more Interested in a bite tug, where she would just walk outside inbetween the chicks and just watch her bite tug. We have since put our ladies into a run due to losing two to hawks in a few days and almost losing a third. Now our 4 month old puppy likes to chase her bite toy and run right back to the chicken pen to show the chickens her toy thru the fence.

Some dogs will do better when introduced to chicks, and they can get used to them while the babies are too innocent to behave like prey.
A full-grown chicken can eat a mouse, and even a rat. However, I remember the rats in New York. You might want to set some live traps, or drown the nasty things. By placing a string through a soda can, and putting peanut butter on it, the rat will go for the peanut butter, and fall into a bucket of water and drown.
