My names Brad Edwards and I homeschool four kids along the Alabama Gulf Coast. This site has been really helpful over the years and it was about time I joned. I use chicken guard and rigged it up with braided fishing line, have a homemade dust bather in the run, stapled wire to 2x4 to create an in run food plot and bought forager organic chicken seed blend from grow organic, have 2x 50 gallon trash cans with side nipple feeders one in run and one in coop, and feed layer, corn, meat, leftovers. I would like to let free range more but on christmas day we had a 30" chickenhawk/coopers hawk/redshoulder "white looking" hawk maul one of our ladies and our rooster fought it off, very awesome christmas story and everyone was okay :).

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not new to chickens but not overly experienced either.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
14
(3) What breeds do you have?
Amerucana, Easter Egger, TN Red, Orphington, Cemani
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Its pretty much everywhere :)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Surfing, Fishing, Permaculture Agriculture
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I homeschool four kids and am creating sustainable agriculture with ideas like food forests, edible landscaping, etc. When I stop homeschooling I will cut grass, do landscape design, and farm full time.

Thanks NFC, gardening advice and setting up your garden like your old is pretty big. Personally the easiest way to garden I have found after watching people, myself included, picking things like watermelon, turnips, onion etc is pull the beds up higher, plant less, and #1 is stay away from Annuals and gear more toward fruit trees and bushes.
