Bamboo leaves as food....

Unfortunately I could only help maybe 1/4 of the thicket since that is all that is on my property.
I was not planning on letting it stay but everything loves it and the scale of removing even what is there is huge.
The houseplants get Aza max treatments that work pretty well, some were too delicate for neem or even soap.
I did find that a diluted mix of alcohol and water provided a pretty thorough emergency quick kill without shocking the plant.
Spider mites love 2 things: Dryness and plants that are compromised in some way. It's like a weak chicken will be more prone to mites or disease - a healthy organism has less chance of attracting sickness and if it does, more chance of fighting it off. In our house, we usually send anything that gets spider mites to the trash...but if it's a beloved plant, lots and lots of misting, wiping with damp sponges and putting a plastic bag over them for a few days to increase humidity can sometimes save them. But if your bamboo is experiencing mites, I'd try flooding it with water - spider mites want dry conditions and hate moisture. Maybe sprinklers or some such to wash off the mites and give the plant what it wants to get rid of the stress it's experiencing. Look up the type of bamboo you have and see what it wants: More water, fertilizer, no fertilizer, soil type, and so on.

It's pretty easy to get rid of as long as you devote the time to knock over the shoots when they come up. Once it gets down to being a foot or so tall you can spray it with roundup.
Didn’t read the whole thread but had to respond on this one.

Roundup is a strong poison.

In Europe it’s forbidden soon because it causes cancer.

It has been proven that a number of poisons of Bayer / Monsanto harms life. Soil gets infertile and a lot of insects (like bees) die because of the use of poisons.

I would never plant the regular bamboo in my garden, not even to please my chickens after seeing the results of the plant rooting underground.

Not to belabor the point, but we would not have the ease, quality or length of life we have without poisons. If not glyphosate it would be something else. Nature is beautiful and wondrous, but it is not kind, and kills without mercy. If the many tools we've developed to increase our chances of survival go away, many will suffer and die.

At least glyphosate (supposedly) breaks down in the soil after a while. Not to exonerate glyphosate itself, but apparently its biggest problems are the cytotoxic additives (eg, surfactants) and its use as a desiccant on crops (sprayed on crops at end of season to dry them quickly for harvest). Any concern that anyone might have about spraying glyphosate on their lawn unused by chickens is completely dwarfed by the fact the glyphosate is in many things (eg, virtually all grains) they eat due to the latter practice that is not consistent with its intended usage. At least that's the case in the US and Canada. Don't know what they do in Europe. [/rant]

btw is that a Welsummer chick in your avatar?

Sorry but I can't agree on your opinion which is based on wrong assumptions. I do agree on the ease. That's part of the problem why so many people still use it for a quick win. But people do get sick of all kind of pesticides and herbicides. Because it's proven people do get sick of Round-up it wil be prohibited in 2 years time.

Medicines for a longer life is something else as poisons to eliminate plants.
E.g. people who eat biological food live longer than people who don't. But to be honest, this is not just because there is no poison in the food. People that choose to eat biological also have a healthier lifestyle than people who don't (in general).

But lets not get too much into a yes and no argument here. If you are interested in the damages on live by Monsanto or Bayer you don't have to dig deep on the internet. And everyone can have their own opinion of course.

The chick in my avatar is a Dutch bantam.
