I had a banana that had sit out on the counter a little too long and was overripe, so having read so much about how chickens love bananas (including the peel) I decided to give it to my little flock as a morning treat. I removed half the peel and laid it naked-side-up in their treat dish, and after running over to see what I'd brought them and giving it a close visual inspection they just looked up at me like, "WTH is this crap? Don't you have any more of those delicious black soldier fly larvae?" and walked away to continue chasing the giant grasshoppers that wander into the yard from our pasture.

Picky, spoiled little snots.

Maybe they will wait til you aren't looking to give it a try... my girls are funny like that with new stuff. Brats!

I give mine broccoli and they all run like it's gonna attack them but as soon as the first one takes a bite, it's gone in minutes. You'd think they know by now it's one of their favorites lol I tried an over ripe banana once and they ignored it, came back later and half was gone and the other half was in the dirt out of the bowl so I know they ate some, it attracted quite a few flies so they could have been after them and got banana that way but I'm not sure. Celery was the only thing they outright rejected. I give them frozen baby food leftover that the baby grew out of as treats on hot days and they love all those vegetables, maybe it's the way its offered, in frozen puree nothing is left but diced or whole and they run away and take a while before trying it. Definitely spoiled brats lol

Yeah, they actually did eventually eat the banana innards, though like HH I don't know if that was because they liked it or it was just a by-product of them going after the flies that liked it. But, either way, it's gone.

Mine LOVE bananas! I did start them on it when they were babies. At about a week or two old I took an over ripe banana and smashed it up with some water, so they could eat it. I think at a young age they believe everything given to them is ok. They loved it and now mob the person with the bananas. It works out well for me because I hate bananas that have any brown spots on them LOL

Today's installment of "What are you trying to pawn off on us now?": Spaghetti squash innards. They took a few minutes to decide that it was edible, but once they did they made quick work of it. The menu expands.
