Our 2 month old goat was banded one month ago. Two days ago we realized his band had broken. However the sac looked swollen and black. We rebranded him. His sac does not look good. His temperature is 104.2
I called the vet, they can not see him until tomorrow. Should I tell them it’s an emergency?

This is what I would do. I would cut off the scrotum just below the band now. You shouldn't have any bleeding. It is dead. Clean and disinfect the wound with whatever you have. Personally, I would use peroxide. Then put the goat on antibiotics.

Thank you for your replies. I did think I should cut it off, but I couldn’t get myself to actually do it. So I took him to the vet and he did cut it off.
I was with him during the procedure and the little goat did not even cry out, so I don’t think it hurt him to have it done. It bled very minimally. Something for me to learn from. If I ever have that problem with future goats, maybe I’ll have the courage to do it myself

It is unlikely you will have that problem again. I have banded a lot of goats and calves, and I have never had that happen. Some of the goats were pretty good sized too. I am assuming your boy got a tetanus shot.

Yes and he was also given antibiotics.

Good to hear. He needs both. How is he doing?
We had rebanded him, and then I couldn’t get an appointment with the vet for 24 hours. By the time he got there, he seemed to be doing fine.
After the vet, he showed no indication of what he went through, except he definitely doesn’t want us to hold him-which is a bummer. He’s super cute. He’s all white in a herd of black and brown goats
