Personally, i wonder if its a way for breeders to use their own dogs again ... so they dont have to pay the high stud/ B itch fees of other top breeders. Just a thought.... Dont shoot me..

Because.. if you are really concerned about breeding along the specific traits that you want to carry on..... why not find another breeder with an un-related dog, with the good traits that you are looking for? Why is it necessary to in-breed/line-breed your dogs?

That is one of the most asinine regulations I've seen. I agree. The person(s) who want it to pass need to take an animal husbandry course. There is nothing wrong with line breeding when it is done right.

To the people that are all for this, you have to line breed a lot of species of animals to prevent health problems, and bring out good genetics. Line breeding is a form of inbreeding, not necessarily meaning breeding brother to sister. Good breeder line breed their animals, if they don't, in most cases they end up with a lot of problems and a junk breeding line that can turn into a disaster. I have to linebreed/inbreed with my rabbits and pigeons, and its similar to most other animals. the key is to selectively breed for a specific trait that produces a good quality, healthy animal that best represents its breed. Also if you support something like this, then you are supporting the animal rights system where they just want to put a lot of restictions on animal ownership for both breeders and pet owners. It will only end up punishing the good, not the bad. That is certainly not something I would want.

That said, i doubt that a a law like that would pass. But I will pass it on to the anti-peta and pet-law yahoo groups.

It is a form of inbreeding. just not severe as breeding full brother to full sister.

I'd imagine the reasoning behind it is to lessen the impact of genetic diseases. Kind of like the AQHA not registering Impressive bred horses after 2014(?).

I hope they get this stopped! I hate to break it to you all, but if you own anything that's "purebred" its been inbred at somepoint. Linebreeding is the act of using controlled matings of related individuals (how closely related varies, could be son to mother, son to great great grandmother, niece to uncle or grand uncle or half uncle, or even 12th cousins). As stated before, it is used to increase the likelyhood that certain favorable traits will be "locked in" to a certain line. If done in moderation and by a responsible, knowledgable breeder then the dangers are greatly reduced. One more thing to think about, if you bought a pair of birds from someone of the same breed and you plan to breed them more than likely you'll be linebreeding them.

I agree with this. Also with out breeding like that, you take a high chance of bringing in something you don't want to add into your breeding line.
