Bantam Araucana colors?

WOW that was a lot of posts in a short amount of time.

Well, personally I'd be VERY cautious of showing a black bird with a slight gold leakage. . . It could get severely marked down, but you can show him fine as an AOV bird.

The only other thing I gotta tell you of in showing concerns is his comb. It's a bad comb - Too tall and not conforming to the shape of his skull.

Also, are those legs pink on the soles? They look like it. Make sure his soles are not pink, and his skin is yellow!

Thats her. She kinda looks at you like she wants to talk. When she was a baby and the others would run away scared, she would jump on my back and look around, sometimes peck at my hair but usually just settle in for a nap or visit.

The one in my avatar and in this post are from the woman I just bought them from 2 weeks ago. They little one is called Little Nicki. She is really friendly like Belle and I do not have them together right now b/c I am afraid the Big Black Roo boy will pick on the little ones. Belle takes care of the other two in the grow out pen and keeps the peace

Yeah Lanae and I were just chatting I'm not going to show him. I'm going to stick to my Bi-Tufted Hen for January. If Lanae's little pullet was bigger that I just bought from her I'd love to see how she would do. She is coming along nicely. Her Tuft is getting really full and bushy.

His comb is big, so I wouldn't show him but you can breed him to a hen with a really nice small comb and get good results. That is what I did with two of my boys who had big combs. So far only 1 of the chicks inherited the comb and he was a cull.

For showing you want bi-laterily tufted, rumpless. Anything else wont even get you looked at is my understanding. On the Araucana club site they have the standard of perfection with pics.

Its getting tall and falling to oneside. I'm not going to use him for a breeder Roo. I am going to use my Lav clean faced Boy to breed with the Two black Hens and Lav Pullet. This way I will increase my Lav stock with some splits.

Here's some pic's of him and the other lav pullet.

I'm thinking Midnight will do well at the next show b/c they only had 1 LF Araucana at the Boston Poultry Show and that had 1500 entries. I plan on going to the Big E show in Jan and sometimes that one only has like 500 entires.

Here is a full body pic of her. She is rumpless and bi-tufted

Hi! I am in Northern CA as well, but further inland, about an hour east of Redding. Kind of in between Sac. and the Oregon border.

I wondered, where Oak Run was. I think there is a guy in the Grass Valley area who raises large fowl araucanas.

I am going to visit a friend of mine in Brentwood this weekend who has Araucana also. We trade birds back and forth. I am taking a nice double tufted blue girl to him to go with the other blue girl he got from me. I am picking up a couple of roos.

Its nice to know there are a few people in California who have Araucana.
