Bantam asil?

I'm going to try to create bantam asils.. i'm not really sure if its gonna work but my plan is to use bantam cornish and some asils i have. the asils are a good small size. I don't have any bantam cornish yet but I'm looking for some, if i can't find any locally i will order some chicks from a hatchery..

any thoughts or input on this? has anyone tried this?

You may be able to create a bird that appears to be a bantam asil, but if you cross cornish, oegb or any other breed in, other than asil, the resulting birds will not be bantam asil. There are breeders that have bantam asil already, that got them through selective breeding, using no other breed than asil, mostly reza asi. Why wouldnt you just purchase some that are pure asil?

i haven't find any breeder here in california, more specifically, monterey, ca. So i decide i could try it out. i could breed my project until it is about 31/32 asil and just be selecting the small ones. I will probably get some bantam asils later when the weather gets cooler to ship or if i can find hatching eggs better for my wallet.

I had a long response for you to think about, but I will sum it up as this. To make what looks like a bantam asil, it will take several generations, hundreds of chicks that are culls, and a lot of money to end up with a bird that appears to be something it is not. Money wise, time wise, and of course to keep from producing hundreds of birds that are culls, you would be much better off just purchasing bantam asils from a good reputable breeder, even if you have to pay shipping, which is done by people daily. Look up saladin on here, he has some real nice bantam asils, and is a good guy to deal with. Good luck, whatever route you take.

I have some small asils they're probably 3 lbs.
They're not bantams though. They're still growing they're about 5-6 months old.
I'd personally just buy bantam Asil instead of making them through crossing breeds.
By cross breeding you will loose the good qualities that make up asil.

I know with bantam shamo they selectively breeding the smallest birds, and hatching the smallest eggs.
To make them took about 8 generations possibly more.

I agree with the previous posters. Don`t bastardize Asils. You can start with bantam Asils and breed smaller, if you want, but to infuse ANY other blood into an Asil only creates a mutt.........Pop

To make a bird that looks like an asil. Several years ago I corresponded with a guy that used cornish bantams and modern game bantams as a first cross. There was a thread on classroom@ the coop about this. I wanted to begin the same project because I had looked for a long time for asils and they hard to find or very costly. But I eventually found some good asils. Don't know what strain they were, they were solid white. I kept them for several years and raised many chicks and used them in a project to make white naked neck orientals. Anyway I seen pictures of this guys project asil look alikes and they looked like an oriental. I have copies of the pictures if I can find them. But if you can afford the real deal go for it and you will be much happier. But if you like a challenge you can have fun with projects.
