I recently got 4 red shoulder Yokohama pullets and 2 straight run bantams from rural king. I am a first time chick mom and I am trying to search what in the world my 2 black bantams are…. Can someone tell me what they are? And if possible are they male or female? I bought them on July 8th 2025.
First two pictures is the first day. They have grey feet and no feathers on feet

Yes. Usually only the males will develop that much comb at that age.
Got ya, I was afraid of that. Thank you for answering. The guy at the store assured me they were females even being in the straight run bin 🤷‍♀️ he did all the “tests” in front of me.

You're welcome! That's a bummer. Sorry that guy steered you in the wrong direction (there aren't any real accurate "tests" besides vent sexing that is best left to the professionals). It's very cute though, and I hope you can find a good home for it (if it does turn out to be male). :)

What tests where they? Checking the feathers and holding them by their necks?

Checked feathers, flipped them upside down, and looked at the combs. They were the only two left in the bin, I felt sorry for them so I got them. Maybe it will be a quite rooster and my neighbors won’t complain 😂 wishful thinking.
