I bought a group of assorted young hens (some 3+ months old and some a year or so old). One of them was a little black hen which I assumed was a black star pullet. When I got them home I was surprised that she was already laying. Then I took a better look at her and noticed that her legs we faded, no longer yellow. She is way smaller than a black star hen. If she is an adult, then she is a bantam of some sort. What do you guys think?

with a beard the hen is probably a red EE roo cross barred rock hen. EE can be small so that might be why she is smaller than the others, what color egg does she lay?

Something along those lines, but the leg color doesn't quite support it.

She does have "hair" on the side of her face. That is considered a "beard"? (Pardon my ignorance). She lays small nearly white eggs.

But from what I have read (not personal experience) a EE would not be reliable to produce sex-link offspring. If that is what she is, it could be that she just so happened to be a she, or she could be a sex-link.

The fluff is a beard.
