Bantam Breed Please

If she was to sit on some eggs for me.
How much time should she be allowed off the nest each day for food drink toilet etc. ?

I think she'd regulate herself enough so the eggs weren't left too cool for too long, but you'd have to make sure she was really into it by testing her with some fake eggs first.

I had some under her and she sat on them at night when locked in nest box pen.
But when i let her out in morning for feed etc she was staying out and not inclined to go back in.
Do you have to keep them locked in all day except for ten mins twice a day to feed etc or what way does it work.

Thanks

If they really want to set you won't need to do any locking in. Being that she has some feathers on her legs I would say she was a wyandotte x with a feather legged breed, maybe cochin or similar. Really pretty thing, isn't she?!!

Unfortunately, so many chickens have been bred for LAYING eggs, not hatching them, the "broody" has been bred out of them. It's not easy to find a "broody" hen. If a hen isn't broody, you're not going to MAKE her broody. She won't sit on the eggs the way they would need to be incubated.

A broody hen won't GET off the nest, except for very short periods - minutes - to eat and eliminate. That's how you know she's broody.

That's "how it works."
