Got these two handsome boys in a random "Bantams" assortment at the feed store. The silkies I have identified (lol!), but these two?

This is Fluffy, who has gorgeous "pants" over his entire leg:

And this is Elvis, whose "pompadour hair" was even more prominent before his comb got so huge:

Thank you!

Elvis is not a Legbar...they don't have the "V" shaped comb and he's not barred.

I'm not familiar with Pyncheon, but the breed book tells me they are single comb and generally mille fleur in color.

The only breeds with that type of comb I can think of off hand would be Polish, whose "V" comb is generally smaller and hidden by the crest, but who come in all sorts of colors, and Crevecouer, which can have a larger "V" comb but should be black.

My guess is a Polish bantam with growing crest, otherwise, it may simply be a mixed bantam from the hatchery, or a breed I don't know or am not thinking of at the moment.

Be interesting to see what others says about Elvis.

Fun bird....I hope he lives up to the name :D

Elvis has a GIANT single comb, but it seems to npt be attached all the way back, and it flops over.

I'll try to get a better pic...

He almost looks like a red pyle oegb crossed with a wheaten oegb crossed with something crested and crele colored.
Cackle does carry a crele colored oegb by the way.

COOL looking fellow.

I think the oegb usually get the combs dubbed making them smaller. Not something I would agree to if it were mine.

The color is not good on the Brahma either but he still looks cool and so long as one is not showing either of them no reason at all they cannot be good members of the flock.

Now that I went looking I want some spangled oegb hens. Man are they pretty.

Okay, newbie question: oegb?

We have only been chicken-keepers for a few months, and definately not worried about things like showing!

It's just fun and interesting to know what breeds we have (and we have quite a few!) and learn more about them.

I'm sure you all understand. :-)

With the newer photos, I agree that is a single comb that flops...the photo in the first shot looked like "horns" to me rather than single comb on my computer screen....trouble with trying to visualize in 2D what is 3D on different monitors.

OEGB is Old English Game Bantam

As to what Elvis is...he honestly does not match up to anything as he is either the wrong comb type, wrong color type, etc.

Which usually means he is a hatchery oops...somebody jumped the fence and he happened.

He may be a "packing peanut" as hatcheries will fill in order with extra chicks for body heat to keep the chicks in transit safer...those "packing peanuts" can be whatever extra or "off" they have on hand.

I can see an "oops" being easily included in a "mixed bantam" package.

Perhaps as he matures it will become more obvious what he is, or not.

But as long as you enjoy him, that is all that matters. Fun bird.
