Bantam chick with a squishy butt and “hernia” around bum

Hello! I just joined an ag class that had hatched chicks recently and were keeping the chicks with other chicks of varying ages so I took home two bantam chicks that did not seem to be doing well. One of them was minutes away from death until I gave him a little sugar water, egg yolk and liquid chick starter. He has perked up quite a bit but I noticed that his bum area is very squishy/liquid filled and he has a small what looks like membrane (which is now dried up) poking out a little below his anus. Does anyone have experience with this? Any help would be appreciated, I would like to know whether he will grow out of it or I can do anything to help or if he is a lost case. I’d hate to allow him to suffer. His legs are also a little bowed so his weight is on the outside toe of his feet.

This chick is lethargic?
Can it eat/drink on it's own?
When was the chick hatched - how old is it now?

That membrane is the navel. You mention that it is very squishy/liquid filled.
Have you seen the chick poop?
I would worry that the chick may have a yolk sac infection, but it's hard to know.

I have seen it poop multiple times, and I’ve assisted with eating but I watched it drink on its own a few min ago. And yes before I began nursing it, it was very lethargic. I think it wasn’t getting enough water, I was at school so I can’t be sure. Even now he’s slightly lethargic but WAY better than before. The poop is clear/white but should change color now that food is in its system.

And also, I was told that the chicks were hatched about two days ago. They are around 3 days old now but that may be a little off, not much attention was payed to them before they were in my possession

I'm glad it's getting a little better. Can you get some Poultry Nutri-Drench and give the chick 1-2 drops direct dose for a several days?
Hopefully dehydration is the main problem and it will perk up.
Leave the scab alone, but if it starts to look infected, you can put a little triple antibiotic ointment on it.

I will definetley try to get my hands on it. Would pedialyte work too? Like if I can’t get my hands on the nutridrench. I am getting as much fluid as I can in him but right now he’s tucked in the fold of a t shirt (he can get out easily) and is going to sleep finally so for tonight I will probably let him rest.

Let him rest, but he does need to be hydrated.
You can give a little pedialyte.
Poultry Nutri-Drench is quick uptake vitamins, so when you can get those it would be good.
