I have some Dutch Bantam eggs in my incubator on day 14! It’s my first hatch of the season. Is anyone else here hatching eggs this time of year?

I don't do any hatches until early spring.

I’m hatching my Dutch and Rosecombs early so that my birds will be fully matured by the time I’m showing in the late summer and fall. I’ll be hatching Modern Games in the spring because they show better when they’re younger.

I really want a black Silkie Pullet..
Hopefully my breeder will have one for me in the spring..

Oh, I hope you can get one! There is something lovely about that coloration on Silkies, even I can admit that as not much of a fan of the breed. I had one (from crossing my Paint rooster to my Porcelain cull hen) and she was so pretty. Sadly, she passed away suddenly earlier this year. My beautiful Indigo.

I understand. Silkies are not for everyone. Docile to the point of seeming stupid..
I enjoy them regardless
I'm glad your having a pleasant time here on this thread. It's awesome seeing all these Bantams. Your Silkie was very pretty..

Thank you, she was a sweet little hen. I'd really hoped to hatch from her and my silkied Cochin rooster to see if I could get more lovely, silkied black birds, even if they were mixes, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Oh, well.

Haha, I've heard that about their temperaments! Mine are sort of anti-Silkie in that respect, it seems. They've never been overly docile or stupid, really.

You know, except for some silly moments like that one time my Paint rooster, Reuben, was trying to seem really impressive by flapping into the air and ended up landing in the poop-scooping bucket.

Honestly, with my Silkies, I really fell in love with their feathering, but the breed is just not that interesting to me, personality-wise. So it's not that I hate them or anything, but they're just kind of... meh? Not like my sassy little silkied Cochin bantams, who have the Silkie feathering I love along with all the bantam Cochin attitude and personality. Can't get enough of them!

But anyway, I do understand why people like Silkies a lot and I don't blame you at all for enjoying your silly, fuzzy birds.
