No he was calling them Bantam Barred Rocks. I thought he was clueless..
I guess that's what he has..

Oh, haha! Yeah, they come in bantam size. :D I've been thinking about getting some of them. My large fowl Barred Rocks are getting kind of frail in their old age (they'll both be 9 years old next May), but I do like Barred Rocks so I thought I'd give the bantams a try once the big girls have gone. :)

Neat..I don't want any although they are cute little birds..

I got respiratory disease in my Flock a few years ago getting birds from my Pal. I only buy birds from one breeder now. Plus I have enough now to breed my own birds here.
I'm really excited to see what the Cochin and my Rooster Rosecomb/ Old English game Bantam crosses will look like in the spring...:celebrate

Hi all! My bantams are mille fleur d'uccles and I love them so much! The hens are the cutest things. :) I also have a d'uccle/ee mix rooster and he's such a sweetie. I've been thinking about getting seramas.. does anyone have any experience with those and if they would get along with my normal hens? The d'uccles don't have a problem with the bigger birds but I'm afraid they might.

I know they aren't quite as small as Seramas, but I have two OEGB pullets and a cockerel in my main flock right now because their coop hasn't been built yet (siiiigh), and they seem to be doing fine. The bigger hens do peck at them sometimes when they get too bold, but they're fast little buggers and have had no problems dodging out of the way. :p It hasn't been an issue so far for them to be around much larger birds.

However, I would be very cautious with your rooster, and especially if you have any large fowl roosters as well. I have a Silkie x EE cockerel (kind of in between bantam and large fowl for size) that I had to remove from the flock because he was after the OEGB girls, and they're just way too small for him. So far, though the OEGB girls are coming into lay, the older roosters haven't paid them any attention, thankfully. One pullet even jumped the fence into the pen with my three HUUUUGE roosters (2 Dorkings and a Marans) the other day and they didn't give her a second glance.

Scared the bajeezes out of me when I found her in there, though! Anyway, that's just something to think about beforehand. :)

I have a couple of Serama hens that grew up in my flock of silkies. They are defiantly the top of the pecking order in my flock and sassy. They are very human friendly but quite bossy with the silkies. My silkie rooster hasn't even tried to breed them, I had a young cockerel that would try and get chased around the yard by this little hen half his size, it was the funniest thing to watch I wish I had gotten a video of it. Depending of the rooster you may have trouble if he is too big for her he could hurt her. One thing I for my flock is the Seramas can fly but the silkies cant so they can always get up and away if they had too.
I see you are in Ontario, I am just south of Kingston. Seramas aren't know for tolerating the cold well. Mine did well last year as they just snuggled into the silkie pile when it was cold and we have been down in the 20s at night already and they haven't had an issue. However I've seen many people recommend they not be house in under 40 degrees. I love these little gaps and would love to get more but I’m nervous about the cold intolerance. This is one of my girls next to my silkie rooster.

So adorable all of them...:frow

Vega and Altair today. Totally angelic Fawn Silver Duckwing OEGB girls. They never do a thing wrong, you know. Absolutely innocent of any wrongdoing. Oh, no, they definitely weren't up to anything suspicious just before I came over. Can't you just see the halos they think are floating over their heads?
