I finally found an incubator that works for me and I’m hatching some chicks from my Lemon Blue bantam Cochins. But I have a puzzle. The rooster is red brown and the hen lemon blue, but from the first clutch I hatched of 4 chicks, I have what look like two lemon splash chicks. This shouldn’t be possible right? BR to LB Should only produce BR and LB I thought. These chicks Are 3 1/2 weeks old. Thoughts?

I guess you must have a lemon blue splash instead of lemon blue, just disguised? Can we get pictures of the parents?
Cute chicks, where are you located?
Oklahoma City. I’ll get pics of them this afternoon hopefully.

I took pics of both and now think the A101CC7B-9C18-4CE3-9DBF-FF5A89677224.jpeg F5ED8BB7-F028-4A20-8A39-45B1CC26702D.jpeg rooster is actually a Lemon Blue just darker than my last one was. His hackles have lightened up since j put him in his own pen. The second picture is the hen who has a new boyfriend Now

I agree, he is not a red brown, but very handsome!
Thanks! Hopefully at least a couple of his four chicks will turn out nice and be pullets I can cross with my other rooster. And hopefully some of the 3 chicks I’ve hatched so far from my hen and my new rooster will be pullets to cross to this guy. I want to have at least 3 breeding groups in case the unthinkable happens again and a critter gets into a pen and kills a breeding group.

These two from my LB hen and new LB rooster are only a few days old. And the second pic is also from the same pair and about 3 weeks old. That’s all the chicks so far. The little hen was only laying every 2 to 3 days and a few of the eggs weren’t fertilized. But my new rooster is still young so he’ll do better later I’m sure.
