this is my hen fern who was born feb 16 of this year see me sun touching her under the broody coop? bad pic i know sorry ill try to get one but she just hatched 8 eggs and the other three that never formed had no growth. I didnt know it was to many and she sat on some eggs so i let her stay. She is so tiny and my fav!!! What a good mom

Thanks for all the pics. Guess some are just smaller than others! Melilim, yes, she is round, but she isn't that heavily feathered. The only thing I think she could be is a Cochin with the feathered feet. She doesn't have the look of a D'uccle, although I thought at first she could be. She is a self-blue/lavender, yes.

OK you guys are really making me jealous here! I want bantam cochins so bad

Hopefully soon! I LOVE my Giant cochins...they are the sweetest things ever! I think I will just raise cochins and forget about the rest lol I am SO in love with that breed. Tiki I LOVE that black roo! He is adorable! Does your blue male look like that? If he does and your still selling I may take him!

Well, seeing as how Miss Shadow is at or close to her full size now, I'm again wondering what to do with her. I have Barred Rock roosters, standards. Will they kill her accidentally, trying to mate her? I can see Dutch grabbing her by the back of the head-feathers and snapping her tiny little neck! I have seven-week-old chicks larger than she is.

Do you have a laying flock with all hens? I'm sure she could hold her own, depending on her personality. Little Tina is top hen over EVERYONE.
Hummm.... or you could get her a boyfriend.

Nope, my laying flock consists of 40+ hens, including Shadow, and two BR roosters, Dutch and Mace. I hoped that Zane would make that three, but I'm seriously doubting that now. Then I have Suede's group and the Delaware trio will go in the Firetower coop. There is no group with just hens, unfortunately.

SO FAR, knock on wood, my standard flock is getting along fine with the bantam araucanas and bantam cochins. Except for the bantam cochin youngsters (I'll have to count, but they're roughly 7 weeks?), who are still separated.

YMMV!!

im not sure if this pic tells how small she realy is but the babies are only a few days old and the chicks will soon be very crowded trying to get under her soon? I think your cochin is very pretty some of mine took alot longer to mature than others too. Even my langshans, some matured very quick and others alot slower?

It does show she is very small, when put against the tiny chicks. Thanks! I'm sure we'll enjoy Shadow. She is holding her own in my great big flock, but when she reaches maturity and Dutch starts looking her way, I'm going to be very, very nervous!

Oh nice picture!

I dont have any standards, but the cochins for being so sweet and deliteful, seem to be very hardy and able to hold their own and then some when need be. Good luck Cynthia. I would love to hear how things come out when she comes 'of age'. One thing she has going for her, most bantam cochins dont start laying till 9 months of age.
