I bought this Roo today. He was hatched last Summer.. I would love to get into showing, but I’m not sure what is considered show quality. I breed and show Golden Retriever dogs so this is a whole different rodeo. He is a mottled but has very little amount of white.. is that a flaw?

The mottling probably wouldn't make him really good for show. What color is the lady he's with? Perhaps you could show their chicks? Mottling should be fairly even, I don't have my standard book on me but something in my wants to say Mottled birds should be about 50% white optimally? Either way, if there's another mottled bird there with more white he'd get beaten color wise.

Looks wise, he doesn't look bad at all to me, although it looks almost like he's missing a point on his comb? He looks about the right size (from what I can tell from a photo : D)

He is my first mottled so I just have him with a Mille Fleur hen right now. I will keep my eye out for a mottled hen with more white on her!! As for the comb, I haven’t really looked at that yet. I will try to get more pictures on here. Thank you for your opinion, I appreciate every word!!

If you don’t want leakage in the chicks, you can breed him to a black, blue, splash, or barred/cuckoo hen. The offspring won’t show mottling, but if you breed them back to the father, 50% of those chicks should be mottled.
