Bantam Cochins...pullets??

Okay, just to conclude this chapter of my chicken obsession story, I picked up the little Easter Egger and BO last night. Healthy and beautifully cared for, friendly and calm. Decided to rule out the expensive chicks I was considering (anything over $5 apiece--not saying the birds weren't worth those prices, just that I didn't need anything specific that would justify spending more than $5). Took Jazzer's advice and went to get the Barred Rock. They also had Gold Laced Wyandottes and Delawares, so I got one of each. Hatch date on these three was 6/12, and the ones from last are about the same age. So now I need to get everybody set up. That will keep me busy (and out off of Craigs List and out of the feed store) for awhile...

Or so you think! Thanks on your compliment above. I love the 'blends' - they are really sweet birds. I hope they will be a combination of a great egg layer/good broody mama.

Here is my youngest 'blend' six weeks old now. Pretty sure it's a boy.

Aw, you're right. I was not only CL last night, but even looking at incubators and high quality eggs...
But some sad news for you...since he's a boy, he will likely never match your hopes of a great egg layer and good/broody mama.

He'll be used for meat unfortunately.. But he will be pretty and happy in the meanwhile.

He'll have a quality life, although short. And every time someone raises a bird for meat humanely, it decreases the demand for tortured, factory-farmed birds. Yours enjoys his life, one less has to suffer in that system.
