I have the following:

Crele male & female
Millie fleur female

Brown red male and 3 females
Lemon blue male and 3 females

Splash male & 4 females

Looking for suggestions on the most advantageous ways to set up breeding pens using these- thanks! 😀

What do you want to produce? Do you want to only breed more cochins of the same variety that you already have or do you want to make mixed color cochins?

Ideally I want to do the breed justice, didn’t know if I am missing anything, or if there are advantages of keeping the lemon blue and brown reds bred separately. Also curious if there was a way to consolidate coops

You could get some blues or blacks to breed with the splashes, since just breeding splash to splash usually produces splashes with less spots.

@Amer do brown reds have genes that lemon blues don’t that make them a deeper red?

Nope, brown reds are simply gold birchen, they can be bred with lemon blue as opposed to the coloring in black copper Marans which has mahogany.

Thinking of combining brown red and lemon blue hens under lemon blue rooster to get a good variety of lemon blue brown red and lemon splash and putting my brown red rooster over my splash girls, from what I understand this will produce more lemon blues?

Breeding brown red to splash will not produce lemon blues. The chicks will be mixed for birchen and extended black, so you can’t label them as a pure variety, even if they outwardly look like one. However, if you breed back to the brown reds/lemon blues, you’ll get more chicks who are true-breeding expressions of the variety.
