What did you do in the garden today?

This is the pumpkin cradle. It's 16 1/2 inches tall and about 17 1/2 inches long.

Alpaca #3 is on the list for the vet. Sigh.
The vet is down with the seasonal flu, so all I can do is keep the noodle-neck comfortable until he gets better and come out. I have plenty of his meds here to do so, and he's not hurting and he's still eating and drinking. He just cannot get up any more. SUCKS.

Oh no! My heart breaks for you... When will it end? 😔

I saw an article today about the concerns that screwworm is going to hit Texas hard. If it does, we are not far behind... Horrific. The methods they were using in the past (releasing sterile males) is apparently not working.

It got up to 60 today so I had the first real opportunity to take a good look at the baby bunnies. There's 5....3 greyish brown and 2 white. They are fat as little butterballs and SO CUTE! Not all of them have their eyes open yet but it's close... 😍

I'm amazed they survived below zero temperatures (at night) for over a week

I always go back to the old tried and true "Waltham butternut" variety
That's what I always plant.
Maybe try roasting the market ones.
Good idea!
I personally found that the bigger they were, the less flavor. We had 7 of them this last summer; none real big, but quite tasty, as long as the skin turned tan color.
Some of mine were large, some on the smaller side. My friend gave me 6 large ones. These have all been tasty.

The 6 I bought at the farmer's market were all large ones. Bland, blah.

I am definitely growing more this year. I had two hills last year. I think there were 5-6 vines, total. I had to pick them all at the end of August, because a deer got in and ate the vines. No leaves left, just nubs. One of the ones I picked wasn't ripe. I left it until December, and even though the skin was pale-ish, it tasted fine.

I grow mine on a cattle panel and if they get large use an onion bag to hold it. Most times I don't use anything though.

Do I get in trouble if I say that pumpkin cradle looks like a dolls potty?
Have not been out in the garden yet today. Still recovering from a couple of extreme weather days. The temp is finally down to 24C (75F) at 8.37AM here.
Will be going over to mum's in a bit. Time to do a Budgie sort - how many of which type are there? and in what gender mixs? which are surplus to requirements and available for sale? she has orders to fill.
The advantage/disadvantage of being a well know breeder of quality birds. :)
