OK...didn't see these pics of the females, but would need a closer shot of the back and side. The male in the center has lacing in the bib. Good for breeding ,but bad for showing.

Ooh, I can't wait for your birds to arrive, either, Linda. I would love some Holderread stock in my BEIs.

The Blues are really, really, really pretty, but I'm doing BBS in Runners so I'm sticking to Black in the BEIs. Not that I would turn down any Blue eggs should they be offered

Since they aren't officially a flock the new pair may be viewed as trespassers that are trying to steal some really prime nesting real estate. It depends on the ducks - some will cope better with newcomers than others. You may also find the pairs splitting up or the extra drake being chased off.

It's early enough in the breeding season that you could try it, but at this time of year I'm not sure that I would personally recommend it.

Thanks for the tip! I appreciate it.

I don't want to rock the boat. Also, if you don't mind, since this is our little hens first lay, how can you tell if she is getting egg bound? She is acting a little strange, resting on one foot, keeping her tail feathers spread. She has made a nest, and goes in and makes her cooing sounds, but no egg. I know with parrots, you don' t have much time, but I don't want to stress her unnecessarily. She is 8 1/2 months old and has lay pellets in her diet for the last 4 weeks as well as ground up eggs shells from the chickens, sprinkled over her food. (Plus wheat and oats and grains oh and grass)

That is a lot of white back there Bob. Do you have any pics of the females?

Walt

What is this white in the rear end called. I have drakes that have none or just a small amount. He would make a good female breeder with this fault I think. bob

I think a gray Call male with lacing in the chest might be a good color breeder, but I'm not sure about the white I am seeing in the stern of the bird. I don't know of any special name for it Bob other than white. I wouldn't use it for a color breeder with that white, but you could try it.

will calls and BEI fly aaway and never come back if i dont clip their wings. i want them to free range, but they need to be able to fly to get away from predators if need be. do they migrate if i dont clip. if i feed and water them everyday will they stay cos they know thats where food is going to be?
