Thanks,,, is the ringed brother a Khaki as well??? I ordered the book that was mentioned on call duck variaties. I hope it can clear up some of this and I will know what to look for before jumping in.

Any ideas what to feed them to get alittle more weight on the breast area? I am thinking of showing at least the mystery drake as a Khaki in about 2 weeks. Might get laughed at by the club members..... LOL

If I had to guess I would say that the second drake with the white is showing partially formed pied genes. I have a pair of blue duskies that are carriers of the pied gene. My blue fawn drake shows a slight white area around his neck and has a small white patch under his chin.

My pair are capable of producing fully pied birds in the range of pencilled, blue pencilled as well as fawn and white.

That is my take on what these birds are. I do agree that they are most likely khaki calls. There certainly is no pastel/butterscotch/appleyard in there!

Are East Indies as difficult to raise as calls or is their care different? I've been considering them for a while now and was just curious.

Linda,

The Indies should be a lot easier than the Calls at hatch time. They will even hatch their own, but Calls like to get up off the nest after a couple weeks. I never trust them to sit. Indies have other problems though....one being that they have zero personality compared to the Calls. The other is the exhibition type of Indies like to stop laying eggs after a year or so.

I lost all my Calls to a fox a couple years ago and have been trying to find some that I can work with.

In my opinion and with my East Indies, they are easier, I beileive it is because their bills are stronger, harder, and mine haven't been crossed bred or line bred to reduce the size and body as a exhabition call or a call in general, they are the original breed of there species, (laughing), do I make sence anyone, okay, what I am trying to say is the calls were not born as calls from what I have read in a 150 yrs of peoples research and publishings, they were for example a small typy duck with one heck of a load duck sound call quacker on them, but hunters wanted to use them on the water instead of mouth made duck call to lure in ducks to shoot and kill for food and sport, so they took the original small breed duck "THE CALL" and started breeding to reduce the size to fit in those hunters camoflage hunting duck vest and pockets, so that from the literature from ENGLAND to god knows where else, is where they seem to have started from, for the queens and kings food gather's. The East Indie was born that species the East Indie, again in my opinion, the East Indie is 97% easier to hatch, and they are cared for like all the other ducks.

I am a blessed women and god is and has always been good to me, when I didn't have a dime in my pocket, I still was able to feed my children and keep a roof over there heads, my husband says all the time when I get screwed over, Linda, your going to go to heaven, for all the good you do and in helping other people, Walt, you tell me what you need, I don't have much, and I have the holderread lines, the eric olson lines, the lee morey line, now the HOLDERREADS, I bought directly from him, the ERIC OLSON, I bought directly from him, my Lee Morey (talked to him last week, thought I was a hot shot getting to speak with him), but I bought them with the word of a breeder/seller that he raised them off his direct decendent birds he bought from Lee Morey, can't say yes or no on them, my butterscotch laid a egg today, you want me to mail it to you and you see if you can hatch it? Do you want a few eggs when they all start laying? What can I do to help you Walt?

Okay got to go fixing to be late for class and that is a no, no

Oh no doubt they are easy as making cheese toast, I don't have a bit of problem with my East Indies, but I wanted to breed line them to reduce there size and structure a litttle, just for the well knowledge, no particular reason, (laughing) like I don't have enought to do now, but what I recand I am saying to improve their look, and sharpen up my flocks appearance.

I've been looking at Holderreads. i live in Oregon and they are based in Corvalis, Oregon, so it's so tempting. I've always loved the BEI's so I might just go for it this spring once my hatching eggs take off.

Are you happy with your Holderread ducks? I've heard so many good things about them.

Thank you for your generous offer Linda. I am not quite ready to do it yet. Lee Morey came from Florida to see my Calls several years ago. He is a nice guy. I saw him at Columbus a couple months ago when I judged that huge class of Calls. That was fun seeing all those good ones.
