well (laughing) I am a terrible incubator call hatcher, I want lie, but I have just been trying to compile some information for my sweet friends and customers, and I have just put some of it on my website under the last tab on left Hatching Tips if you want to go look, but this is my personal opinion and my personal experience, so please no one take offense and do a drama segment on the duck forum, LOL, I have been reading on the hatching eggs for sale auction site here on BYC, and those people are dramma city they sling it rough about peoples eggs and flocks, and it was rude and offensive in my opinion and that is a for sale auction site, not a forum board, so, take it easy with any comments, and if you would like to share some knowlege that I can add to my page I would love some, or some step by step hatching call egg experience, breeders and sellers act like it is the million dollar question, and can't give it up, no offense, I don't know why.

) Thanks again!!

yeah, I agree, but I will have customer inquiry like this:

Hi my name is Linda, and I saw you have call ducks, do you sell them? What color is your favorite that I will like? What do you feed them, can they swim? Do you keep them in your house or can they stay outside? I have small grandchildren would they be aggressive and attack or bite them? What kind of call duck do I need a pet or show quaility? Can you give me all the information or advice on this duck?

Oh my sweet jesus, at one point I was spending a 8 hours responding to emails and 4 hours to phone calls, not just on call ducks, but turkeys, geese, and what ever else they woke up and decided they wanted to buy, breed or hatch, I kid you not!! I had one person call and want advice and information on cows, do you see any cows on my webpage?? I am not a vet or have I ever raised darn cows, LOL. I am always polite and will help anyway possible to customers or even potienal customers, but one day I had a emotional day with family sickness and death, and somebody called asking to me "STUPID QUESTIONS", and I have 500 critters to tend, along with college classes, family, a farm & garden, and god knows what else around here, I have to schedule potty time, but I was probally rude by saying "Listen you found me on the internet, so I know you can GOOGLE!! Click, end of conversation. I have spent hours upon hours googling and researching, along with reading books, to find out how, what, when, and where, how hard is it to use Google search ingine? Just like the BYC forum, I was googling looking for some critter information, and up popped BYC forum and discussion, I know it is time consuming but if you want critters you need to have time. Now don't no one take offense to this, I am not talking about dissussing and helping each other on here it is different than 500 emails to answer, the one on one inquiring minds want to know is done got old to me, find you a message board and join, make friends, share experiences, get a life, LOL.

After much research on this cute little duck I am thinking he is a Khaki call duck. How I dont know. When both his parents are snowys. This was proven after talking the owner and the orginal owners of the flock. The fella I got him from purchased what he believed at the time to be appleyards, these where shipped to him. He still beleived this until I told him I thought the little fella was something else. He contacted the owners and they confirmed they only raised two colors.. apples and snowys. The man was sent a trio of snowys by accident and his apples were sent to another buyer by accident. The man is so grateful that I helped him discover his true breed variety that he is giving me another call drake (a full brother to the first one).... he will arrive this evening. The man is new to call ducks as well as myself. So we are now learning together! Thanks to all who helped in this mystery and who are stilling helping!

I'm on my way out the door right now but I will look at my varieties book later...what color is the speculum on his wings? You know the little stripe of color...but yes, now that I am seeing his head as brown and not the midnight blue it looked like from here in the other pictures, I'd say a Khaki. The speculum looks brown as well from here.

The National Call Breeders Association has a varieties book in the store section of their site. It makes for fascinating reading and is a must-have for anyone involved with Calls. You might want to get one, I guarantee you'll have fun reading it (even if some of the details on some of the rares will have your eyes crossing after a while!).

Hey MrsTurbo, I think you've had Snowies...have you ever had them throw a Khaki? Is that even possible?

Ok,, I think someone was asking me about my mystery duck's wing pattern... here it is.. I really do think he is a Khaki.. but what do I know as he is my first call duck!

I have received another call duck drake from the same breeding as the mystery duck... these ducks are full brothers and out of the same hatch.

The one the left in this pic is the mystery drake...the other one is his brother.

So what is his brother?? Khaki as well or what.. he has the same pretty coloring of dark brown only difference between the pair is one has a ring and one dont.

Thanks,,, is the ringed brother a Khaki as well??? I ordered the book that was mentioned on call duck variaties. I hope it can clear up some of this and I will know what to look for before jumping in.

Any ideas what to feed them to get alittle more weight on the breast area? I am thinking of showing at least the mystery drake as a Khaki in about 2 weeks. Might get laughed at by the club members..... LOL
