I agree with that. A few Calls out there make good broodies, but they are few and far between and no sense risking the eggs just to have them get up part way through the incubation.

Dmiravalle, I have some definite opinions on what I like best for incubation, but the best rule of thumb to follow is to buy the best and closest to what you are looking for in features that you can afford. Personally for Call eggs I prefer to have one machine for incubating and at least one for hatching.

WHAT ARE THE BEST BROODIE DUCKS TO SIT ON CALL DUCK EGGS? ART DOES YOUR BLACK EAST INDIES DO WELL?

i HAVE A GRAY CALL HEN I GOT FROM ART LUNDGREN SHE HAS ALWAYS STAYED ON HER NEST EACH YEAR AND HATCHED FOR ME IF I LET HERE.

THE WHTIE CALL I HAD WOULD GET OFF AFTER ABOUT TWO WEEKS. BOB

My white calls come off nest every time too, but I have got to thinking outside this box, because no chickens will go broody for me, but my thinking is what about this, I have muscovy ducks, and they are the broodiest jokers I have ever seen, and I have hatched other eggs under them when my incubators were full, because like right now, we were adding a water spout/spicket today in the back yard next to the back door (because Roy was tired of going to brush his teeth and the sink was full of crud were I just washed waterers that go in babies boxes on washer and dryer, and the shower floor nasty were I just washed out there plastic boxes to repaper), and lord to behold he took some underpenning down at the back door, to tap into the water line, and what do you recand I find?? A lavender muscovy sitting on a huge nest she had made full of her beautiful lavender feathers, now how in the world did she get under there and how in the world is she getting in and out, LOL, but nevertheless, I am going to experiment with this, the next call eggs I have I am going to slip under a Muscovy duck, so we will see how that plays out.

Now if that ain't a hoot, I may answered your own post, (laughing) I am tired, but somebody was asking about this and I looked through emails, answered a adv. of yours taking orders for silky holderread ducks, you emailed me back that you were booked up, and I got your email and posted and told that person you may know about them you bred and raised them, lord did I post on your own inquiry post?

Nope, not at all. I am raising a few ducklings from my own two pairs, but not very many at the moment. I ordered 12 more from Holderreads this year, so hopefully by next year I can fill more orders. I got a lot of emails asking to be put on my list. I only had 4 ducklings available, but may let some of the ones I've held back go later in the year. I still don't know much about these guys yet, as I just started with them back in May of last year. I've only had one go broody. They don't fly, but they do swim. Although, not as often as my Pekins used to. They are incredibly hard to hatch, though I think most bantam ducks can be. I've just bought a Brinsea incubator, so we'll see if that helps at all. They aren't a breed with a lot of information, and most of my knowledge I've gained from Holderreads. Anybody who is interested in purchasing some can PM me, but at the moment you'd probably be better off ordering straight from Holderreads. Mine are selling for 18.00 a piece, same price as the Holderread ducklings of the same stock. I'm planning on having Snowy, Gray, and Black ducklings available next year.

I have Holderread calls, I had calls, but my husband ask me what I wanted for Christmas and I said 6 pair of Holderread calls, so that was my Christmas from him, but I didn't get the silky because someone here on BYC said they didn't suggest breeding with standard calls, so I didn't want to add more chaois to my farm, but I have a order in for March delivery from Holderread to add to my BEI, I purchased 2 pair of the Blue East Indie and 2 more pair of the Black. But when I seen you advertisement some where about reserve your order, I thought well go for it, and inquired, but that was a spur of the moment want, (laughing) and I have them alot. I have pictures of the new christmas calls on my website, go take a look.
