Bantam Duck Page

Thanks alot for the info, and you made me laugh. I treat all of my pets like kids. I even had my 35 yr. old daughter tell me that i was letting my chickens and ducks take over my life. Actualy she said i have human chicldren that should be important in my life. Then i made her come over to see the ducklings. Well you can imagine how that went, all i kept hearing was omg, are they ever cute. So i explained to her that the birds aren't more important, it's just i can't stop them in the middle of hatching just to go and babysit when they can take the kids with them instead of always having grama watch them. I guess i spoiled my human kids too. I told her i love them but they should get lives of thier own too. I raised my grandson for twelve years before i told my son to grow up and take responsability and take over. Well it worked and my grandson is happy. Anyway i just built a new coop and run and pond and garden area for my feathered kids and with everyones help on here i have a bunch of new ducks to put in there. Thanks to everyone.
Here is a pic of my kids in the tube with my poodle who thinks she's mom. I've been such a bad mom i haven't had time to shave my dog.

ep.gif
I said hmmm let's do the pro's and con's list,
lau.gif
my doggies do not ask for favors, they do not make a mess to clean behind, no cooking, laundry, babysitting, or fussing, not hard to please and when I come in from town, school or work they are always at the door wagging there tail howling and jumping and just straight darn glad I am home.

Let see, well I could go on and on and on, but well kids,

your right you have been REPLACED,

Well then my daughter looked at me with that look of deceitful pretend heart break, and I said Oh yeah they do not do GUILT TRIPS EITHER,
lau.gif

Well i don't know about the guilt trips? I have a pug that weighs about 32 lbs. (ya he's fat) but he's on steroids and he lays infront of his food dish and plays the guilt thing all the time. BUT he's still easier to get along with than the human kids,LOL.
I just found out two days ago my snowy call is sitting on eggs and yesterday when she was out for a swim i had two chickens fighting over who was going to sit on her nest. It was kind of funny at first and then i got worried cause the drake was getting all upset and pacing outside of the coop. I ended up locking up the ducks in the coop with the nest for a couple of hours and then everyone settled down. It was kind of tence for awhile. Sometimes it's hard to figure out what to do with some of these birds. Once i finish the new coop and run the ducks and chickens will be separated so they can all do thier own thing. I think it will be easier for them.

Sure, I forgot completley about pics. My calls are my favorites so this was all started for them. I will start taking pics tomorrow.

We leave our call ducklings in the hatcher for 48 hours after they hatch so they can get their balance. After that we put them in the living room for 24 hours in a clear bin so we can watch them and flip them back over. The better quality they are the harder they are to hatch and keep alive, that is why the good ones cost an arm and a leg

just wanted to add after looking at the pictures again. I noticed that someone had blankets in the brooder for the call ducklings. If you want to do a blanket make sure it is flat and fits the brooder without bumps and rolls. The ducklings will fall over the bumps and flip on their backs. We put newspaper in the bottom and line that with paper towels. Then we use the rubber shelf liner so they can get their grip...the one that has the little holes in it. The shelf liner also works on wire brooders.

Hi!
I just noticed this string so I thought I would say hello. Loved seeing pics of other bantam ducks. I'm a HUGE duck lover. I have a little bit of everything, but my first ones were 3 little calls. I SO love them!!! They live with 18 other big ducks, but they keep to themselves.

The first 3 I got went through some sex changes lol. First I thought I had 2 females and a male. Then I thought I had 2 males and a female. At the time I didn't know how to sex ducklings. One of them has severe angel wings so the tail curling is still hard to tell. Sometimes it curls, sometimes it doesn't and I'm not sure of the proper way to sex adults. I can do ducklings because I've hatched several.

Speaking of hatching, does anyone have any eggs I can purchase? I am pretty sure I have 4 drakes so I'd love some hens. Anyone?
I'm near Lansing, MI. I can pay through paypal if anyone can help me! I've been trying for a year to get hens!

(black) Louie, (top) Oliver and the not-so-sure-of-sex Sammy. They are all a year old last month.

This was taken last week. We've had nothing but rain here for 2 weeks so everyone has been muddy til the last two days, but notice Sammy's wings are a mess. I've tried everything. He/she won't even get in the pond to bathe anymore!
