Hey Aubrey, I had a few BEI getting those white spots a few years back, and one of the top breeders told me when they do that they were aged or old ducks, and I told him no I knew for a fact that they were spring ducks and were only a year old, well Jayson Johnson from Nebraska left me several messages he wanted me to call him so I finally got a minute to call him, and we were talking he shows quite a few from my understanding with a few title belts LOL, but I brought up this and ask him had he experienced it he said yes and "NOT GOING TO REPEAT TOP DOG WHO TOLD HIMS NAME", LOL, but Peter Dempsey OOPS, from my understanding states these BEI that have the pigmentation are like other colors that can't hold the black, and if you put them with white spots on them with a blue east indie it will improve your line and help the future off spring hold the black better and you will get splash on some of these. So, I was wondering have you heard, blogged, or read on any of this information?? And OMG GREAT COLORS AND GREAT LOOKING FLOCK you are going to really have some nice ducks produced off those, and don't you forget who your #1 old lady friend is

and honey these bones wants to be in the trophics in the winter LOL, talk soon, but I am going to get you a few photo's tomorrow. Oh one more thing, I had a conversation with another breeder on those Silver Minature Appleyards, and was told they were nothing more than a snowy cross, what is your opinion on this also

If you breed the white out of BEI females you will end up with a line of dull black ducks. There will be no green sheen. The females should not have any or very few white feathers the first year. I don't breed until the second year, so that I know about how quickly they will become white. If you have white in a male during the first two years, get rid of him. The only show white around the eyes after several years if you have the right thing going on. I'm mentioned in Dr Sheraws book on Indies if that means I know anything.

Walt thanks for that information my friend, I have 2 pair that have white on them they have great features and bodies, and another breeder stated they still made good breeders they just were loosing some pigmentation as do we with greying, but I just didn't buy that BS,
lau.gif
, because no where had I read or experienced it in the 8 yrs I have had BEI, until these two pair I bought to what 'I THOUGHT TO IMPROVE MY BLOODLINE", boy was that some more BS, and it really irriatates the skin off me that people push-promote great blood lines and sell "CRAP", ugh!! Again, thanks so much Walt for the information, I will be sure enough getting them on out off my pen and seperated off until someone wants them.

It is a fine line Linda. You want some white in the females at about two years, but I'm only talking about a few feathers. If the females or males get it in the first year they go to the feed store as pets. You need the white to get the green sheen, you just don't want any in the beginning. My 10 yo females are almost all white. It is more like a white bird with a few black feathers. Anyone that really knows BEI's should know this. I have seen people breed the white out and they end up with dull black birds.....no green sheen. There are a lot of "experts" around, so keep your eyes open.

Hey Linda,
Thanks for the comments, you know I'll let you have first dibs, you helped me with several so It's your turn, and I want some more magpies too. I can make more with what I have, but it'll be easier to just get some out right, plus yours looked great.

None of the indies I got from you have white, well the two hens have that dot under the chin but that's it.

Pretty much what yall have already discussed is what I have read and heard as well, that you want a little for a brighter shine over all, but only after 2 years and none in the males. It's the same with my cayugas and these calls.

All those in the last pics of mine are black calls though. The hens with extra white on them, are actually supposed to be bibbed, they just ended up with a very p poor bibbing to them.

Plan to breed them to some magpies and some better bibs and hope to get some nicer patterning to them, those are pretty weak.
