Okay, so my 6 year old got a hold of the Bantam egg and started to peel the shell back from where it was cracked by the chick. The chick is day 21 tomorrow but I am worried that it might die in the egg because there's no hard shell to cover what's missing. What can I do?

Did the chick pip the egg already before your son got ahold of it? There is a conversation on here about helping chicks in distress hatch. With your little one helping I would keep close eye on it and when the membrane dries out you may need to help it out of the shell.

It pipped through the shell this morning

Pyxis' thread: guide to assisted hatching for all poultry will probably be a big help to you.

The pip is a small little hole to the left of the egg. Chick is peeping and moving around. And I think the membrane is good, Zipper popped his air sack this afternoon. I am not sure I know what I am talking about lol.

He sounds like he's doing great! So that the membrane does not dry out, rub coconut oil on it.
