Hey sorry to hear about Hellen of Troy. How is she doing now?

You said she isn’t laying right now, is that because she is molting or does she have some reproductive issues?

I’m sure you have but did you give her a really good once over for mites/lice?

Also, can you feel her abdomen, between her legs? Is it distended?

Any signs of respiratory illness - discharge/bubbles in eyes/ears/nose?

Have you offered her any fluids or electrolytes this evening? Has her conditioned worsened or improved this afternoon? Has she laid any eggs recently?
Thank you, she passed, about five minutes after my post. I’m taking her to necropsy this morning. I suspect heat stroke. I’d never seen the extreme end of it, so I thought it was something else, I should have dipped her feet in water like i usually do when they are breathing heavy with wings out. It was 86 degrees yesterday, I was re-introducing her and her babies to the flock, she had a lame leg, and the little ones liked to lay on her. She had fresh water and a shady spot that was covered. But the cover was off by the time I got back, still it was shady. I checked that spot this morning and only a small portion had direct sunlight. But maybe a combination of that small spot, the babies on her, and her lame leg created the conditions. None of the other birds, even the ones with her showed signs of heat distress. But her symptoms tend to show it.

She was a wonderful and gentle bird. A great broody momma.

This is her picture in better times.

I’m so sorry she passed. She was a beautiful, beautiful little bird. It can be so tough to figure out what is wrong with them. You did all you could with what you knew at the time, don’t beat yourself up.
