Bantam Identification - 9 weeks - Male or Female? *Update* 15 wks now!

Well, our Silkies here in the US are actually in between standard and bantam. They list them as bantam because this is what they are closest to in size.

Turtle1173, Thanks for the pics! I have a silkie who looks just like yours, though still at the 8 week look. I was pretty sure it was a roo- he stands watch and protects his friend.

I have to say darn!

I am not supposed to have roo's and it looks like I have at least two out of five. I have two partridge and three white. My white silkies are 13 weeks and one of them has the same shape plumage.

Thanks again, Jayne

Hi Jayne, my silkie has come a long way in his looks now. He has this big ole comb now and is quite the ladies man.

Here's a current pic now:

BTW, I grew up in Livermore in the east bay. A little ways from you but not too far

I lived there for 20 years.

Wow, your silkie is gorgeous! And mine looks just like him ;-)

I put all my silkies together yesterday, 3- 13 weeks old and 2- 8 weeks old, and that little 8 week old partridge took over- he is king of the roost for sure. I am pretty sure the other partridge is a female, but have no idea on the other three, they are just a little weird due to temp problems in the incubator.

My brother live in Livermore! Nice place to visit but a little hot for me.

My moms family is from Missouri- small world huh? Originally they were outside Kirksville but now I am not sure where they all live.

Jayne

99 percent of silkies in America are bantam. The large silkies are mosly in Europe. They are huge too. Silkies just look big because of their fluffy-ness. Throw a bucket of water on him or wait until it rains and you will see how tiny he really is.
