I was gone for therapy and my mother in law was chicken sitting for the three days I was gone. She said everything was fine but something happened to one of my bantams. I don't know what happened but this is how she has been walking and I just can't figure it out. She is eating fine but her walking is just way off. Can someone please help me here?

Was your pullet vaccinated for Mareks disease? That is what I would suspect is wrong, although there can be other possibilities, such as an injury, a vitamin deficiency, and other problems. I would place her inside in a basket or dog crate with food and water, and get some poultry vitamins to put in her water right away. Make sure that she can reach her food and water. Mareks is caused by a virus that can have many different symptoms in every bird, such as paralysis of one or both legs, wings, or the neck, skin eruptions, tumors, and eye involvement. It is spread through dander and dust, and it can remain in the environment for many years.

She was vaccinated for mareks. All of the chicks I purchased were vaccinated against it. That's what I was worried about at first too. None of the others seem to be having this problem but I have been watching closely to make sure.

Could she still get mareks even though she was vaccinated? She is the right age? And the symptoms do seem to match. The neighbor does have a lot of birds and I know he doesn't do vaccinations and they trade birds all the time. I suspect they fight birds but I don't have any proof.

Just thought I would update that we think we figured out what happened. We think she got hit by hail during those bad storms. She is up and doing just fine now. None of the other 20 birds in my flock have shown any symptoms of anything else. Thanks guys for all the help in figuring out what was wrong with her.
