Wow, that's awful. Thanks for sharing that information. I haven't had it in my birds-thank God, but I didn't realize it could get to that point.
Glad he recovered!

Thank you all so much for the information, Now what is the best way to catch the little bugger to treat him, I thought I would go buy a fishing net with a long handle, or is it best to just wait until tonight and get him off the perch?? Im kinda afraid to wait any longer ... gonna run get some vaseline and vitamins for him now!!

Hello there! Definitely scaly leg mites. What I use is vasceline, and I mix some Seven Dust right in with it. Apply that twice a day if you can. Works like a charm!

If you can get him off the roost, that works, then just keep him penned up so he can drink the vitamin water and you can treat him easily. For something like that i always keep them penned so they can see and socialize with the others, I always thinks it makes for an easier re-introduction to the flock, if they know he's not totally gone....

Thanks, I have a pen I used to raise some chicks in and it is big enough for him to enjoy some space and easy for me to catch him as needed ( I guess it will be my new hospital pen). I put my roos two companion hens with him tonight after taking them from their roost in the barn. It was real easy to do. I coated his legs real good with the vaseline and the girls as well as a precaution. Hung a waterer up with the vitimans in it. I noticed that his comb is black on some of the tips. Is that a sign of anemia?? or what?
I felt bad for him a little he was slipping around on the perch some, but the perch is pretty wide.

Well, if it's cold where you are, it's probably frostbite. You can gently apply some vaseline to the
comb tips too, but it won't heal em, they'll die and fall off. He'll be a bit disfigured, but should be ok.
If it's not cold, it could be anemia from the mites.
