Hi everyone! i have nine bantam Sumatras who were hatched by a Cochin that. "volunteered" that is to say my daughter picked her up and put her on the eggs and she stayed... She is a great momma. The little ones are feathering out now. most have a long tail, but two have square trails... I'm not familiar with Sumatra chick traits yet. any guesses as to what I've got?

Welcome to BYC!

Oh, I just love those Sumatras!! I don't keep any, but have always wanted to. I love how the hens look like crows. LOL

If you are wondering about sexes, you can post pics in our What Gender section for more help with that...

Enjoy your "baby crows", LOL, and welcome to our flock!

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Yes, sumatras are beautiful birds! X2 on the breed and gender link Two Crows gave you.

Enjoy your little peeps!

i cant wait for them to get all feathered out. i think all but two are cockerels. it's fun anticipating. i also have the most beautiful bantam black frizzle. He is a doll, but I'm not keeping him. when i learn how. to post pics, I'll put them on.

Well, five out of the nine are cockerels. I have two boys that are black with red tips. One has more brown and has more red on his face. The other has tips and a dark face. I am in love with all of them. Of the others, we call one Lefty because his sickles fall to the left. The other has big tailfeathers and small sickles. I havent decided which is the better looking. We just moved them to a bigger pen where they are VERY happy. Of the hens, I have one that is petite and looks to be very excellent conformation. I want to take a pic to show and get some advice. My lead hen may have white feathers on her head, her pins havent really come in yet. I love them all. They are very talkative and friendly, but peck the heck out of you when you pick them up. More handling required!

HI Hope Fall is with you soon. I love your quote. Ravens are very prevalent in Alaska where my brother lived. There s a town name Klawok, which is supposed to be the sound they make.
