bantam sumatras

I bought a little chick today at a swap. I was told it is a bantam Phoenix pullet. I don't know anything about Phoenix breed but it it does not look like any pictures. It does look like a Sumatra picture.....she (I hope its a she) is black with a turquoise blue shimmer. Either the person I bought from misspoke or really did not know.....unless I am wrong and it is a different type Phoenix from the pictures I have seen. Either way he or she has been named Little Egypt. And she disappeared for a couple hours after i brought her home. Either she hid in the leaves in the pen (we are in the woods and have fallen leaves) or flew out of the pen. I was gone for a couple hours and when I returned there she was in the pen. We had walked thru the pen and didn't see her.

There is a Black Phoenix (although it's not an officially APA recognized color) whose pullets do resemble Black Sumatra pullets. A sure way to tell the difference is to look at the comb. If it's a single comb, you have a Black Phoenix pullet; if it's a pea comb, you have a Black Sumatra pullet.

Thank you! I will check tomorrow and see......I should know that right now, but I do not.

I am going to say it is a pea comb since I really cannot see anything there. It is also a grayish black color instead of red. For the life of me I cannot remember an age for this little bird. Could it be that it may change soon? I know nothing about bantams, but I thought it was grown....maybe not. It is a bit feisty. Sorry I am such a newbie that I am not much help.

Based on what you're telling me about the comb, it certainly sounds like you have a Black Sumatra.

Thank you.......if I see major changes I will post.
