Is there good reason to go with one over the other?
We just gave away a huge basket of eggs and only 2 of the ducks are laying right now. So lots of eggs isn't high priority. I just want to add a few pretty and laid back chickens to the mix.
Still deciding on breeds. I did want to bring some older ones in, but not sure I want to bring in "new" germs. So may be having a friend hatch some out or wait until chick days at the feed stores around town or find some day olds locally (if I go local day olds instead of feed store, will I need to worry about bringing disease with them?)
So I'm still sorting it all out.
I love the look of the brahma and cochin, but have been told they are difficult to keep clean and with being in southern AL (between Mobile and Pensacola), everything says winter hardy, but how about southern summer tolerant?
The other breeds we've narrowed it down to are the orpington, australorp and ameracuanas.
