I have had two bantams prolapse badly over the last six months. These were hatched around the beginning of May last year. So, they are not quite a year old. Because I have/had all 18 bantams together (9 silkes and 9 frizzles) it's hard to tell who started laying what, but I get usually about 10-12 eggs every day. About six months ago one of the silkies prolapsed very badly. I talked to a vet who recommended culling her.

Today I went out and one of the frizzles was prolapsed as well. She is in moult, (frizzles moult badly

) and I didn't think they would lay in moult. So since I've never had a prolapse with my full size hens, is prolapse common in bantams and can anything be done to prevent it. And, what causes prolapses.

I am going to give you a bump.

I have not yet delt with prolapse in standard or bantams. I have read that a warm bath, clean the prolapse (apply prep H), lessen her light hours to stop the lay cycle. Sometime it works and the hen recovers and is a-ok. Sometimes it just delays culling.

I don't have answers, but I've wondered the same thing. I have a bantam RIR and she lays very big eggs for her size. Often the eggs have blood on them, sometimes quite a lot. I always check her after these, but she is fine. I worry a prolapse is in her future.
